A group of friends have taken a homeless man to the PDC World Darts Championships in London.

The men, from Bournemouth, Dorset, had an extra ticket to the sporting event at Alexandra Palace.

Instead of reselling it, they decided to give it to a homeless man in London and then proceeded to pay for his food and drink for the entire night, as well as giving him a lodge room for the night.

One of the men, Craig Wells, said: “It’s not about money. “We could have got £75 back, but he really enjoyed it… and will remember it for the rest of his life.”

The friends, all dressed in Mexican costumes, came up with the idea while drinking at a London club before Wednesday’s event.

Wells said: “We had an outing and instead of selling the ticket, my friend Jamie said: ‘Why don’t you take the bum?’, who was sitting outside the drink at the time.

“So he went out to look for it. We just said, ‘What are you doing tonight?’ He said, ‘Not much,’ and started laughing at us.

“And so we went and bought him a pint of Guinness and said, ‘You’d better come with us.’

“The only thing we didn’t have was a hat for him.”

The friends’ guest, a Scotsman named John, turned out to be a darts fan.

Wells explained: “He told a friend of mine it was on his bucket list – he had always wanted to go to darts.

“The funny thing was that they had a target shooting competition… and he ended up getting a free drink.

“We were all trying and he shows up, throws his first dart at the target. You couldn’t get it back.

“At least we fulfilled his dream. “He doesn’t have much in life, but now he has something to remember.”
