The comic book genre is still very much in style, with several shared universes fighting at the box office. The DCEU as we knew it ended with Aquaman 2 (streaming with a Max subscription), and fans are keeping an eye on how the upcoming DC movies will shake things up thanks to James Gunn’s new DCU. We will get new versions of beloved characters and SupermanSean Gunn explains how his vision of Maxwell Lord differs from that of Pedro Pascal, saying “no one is going to confuse Pedro and me.” Let’s analyze it all.
What we know about Superman It’s limited, but fans are eager to see the first chapter of the new DCU, as well as the beginning of Gods and Monsters. the cast of Superman has many familiar faces, including Sean Gunn as a new version of Maxwell Lord. Pedro Pascal played that character in Wonder Woman 1984 Just a few years ago, we should not have expected similar opinions about him. During an appearance in The Kristian Harloff ShowGunn spoke about the discrepancy between the performances and offered:
There you have it. While he and Pascal would have played the same role, it seems like their interpretations of Maxwell Lord will be quite different from each other. This is part of the fun of the superhero genre and comic book lore in general. And with Sean Gunn working with his brother and frequent collaborator on Superman, Good Cash says he felt comfortable making big changes as a character.
Despite how early it is in the DCU, Gunn is already filling three roles. In addition to playing Maxwell Lord in current action, he is voicing two characters in Creature commands including weasel. Still, fans are wondering how Lord will influence the action of David Corenswet’s debut as Clark Kent. As a reminder, you can consult the first Superman trailer below:
Obviously, this footage is limited, so Maxwell Lord doesn’t appear yet. We only saw brief glimpses of Supermanof the other heroes, as well as a lot of time with the lead role of Corenswet. Plus, Krypto was the real scene-stealer in this limited footage.
It should be noted that there has been some backlash about James Gunn hiring Sean Gunn to play Maxwell Lord. The pushback is mainly related to him already voicing two roles in Creature Commandos and (presumably) his domestic connection to James Gunn. But the Gilmore Women alum clearly has experience in the superhero genre, playing Kraglin and filling in for Rocket during the film. guardians of the galaxy franchise (which streams with a Disney+ subscription).
Everything will be revealed when Superman hits theaters July 11. For now, check out the 2025 movie release dates.
