Joshua Zirkzee is determined to fight for his future at Manchester United, according to a report, despite growing interest in his services from Serie A.
United paid £36.5m to sign Zirkzee from Bologna during the summer but the Netherlands international has struggled for both minutes and form. He has scored four goals in 27 appearances and was recently booed by his own fans when he was substituted midway through the first half of United’s loss to Newcastle.
It has long been suggested that he will return to Serie A, with reports even claiming that United were willing to cut ties with Zirkzee. However, the daily mail Zirkzee has no desire to end his tenure at Previous Trafford just yet.
Zirkzee is said to be interested in playing a role in United’s resurgence and is not currently contemplating a return to Serie A, where he made his name with Bologna last season.
After dazzling for Thiago Motta’s side last year, Zirkzee’s stock remains high in Italy and both Napoli and Juventus are said to be pursuing a January transfer for the 23-year-old. Juve, now managed by Motta, were also interested during the summer when Zirkzee eventually opted to join United.
Head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that United will not be able to sign new players this month without selling some first, but they may have to find an alternative source of income if Zirkzee is not prepared to move on.
