The Google Rolling Video Transcripts Function for Google Drive, to allow users to see and search subtitles

Google is adding a new function to Google Drive that will facilitate users to navigate through Movies. Folded video transcripts, this is an update of the automatic subtitles function of the company last year. The technological giant based on Mountain View stressed that users can now see and look for transcripts in movies. This will facilitate the location of specific parts of a video, since taking advantage of a prayer will directly jump the video to that moment. In Specific, this function is currently being implemented in all Google Drive users.

That characteristic automatically generates subtitles in movies when they are loaded (work space administrators can change the configuration to allow the generation of subtitles only when requested).

When the function was introduced, Google said it uses voice recognition technology to transcribe the audio, since spoken words and language used are English. While the company mentioned plans to expand the function to other languages, that has not happened so far.

While the function of automatic subtitles allowed users to see the subtitles as the video is reproduced, users could not see the transcripts separately. This is now being added with the new update. When a video is played on Google Drive, users can open transcripts on a side panel on the right side.

These transcripts are shown together with time stamps. The sentences are separated into different elements from the list. The side panel also comes with a search bar. Users can move through transcripts or look for specific words to find the exact time brand. By clicking on the sentence, the video will also jump to that time brand, allowing users to easily find what they are looking for.

To access the function, users will first have to play a video on Google Drive. Users should ensure that the chosen video has automatic subtitles. This can be verified looking for a CC button in the lower right corner of the video player. Once this is done, taking advantage of the configuration icon in the lower right corner will show a new ‘transcription’ option. When touching this, the side panel will open.
