The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said on Saturday that Elon Musk will look at the gold deposit in Fort Knox “to make sure that gold is still there.”
The United States Lingo Deposit in Fort Knox has served as a storage installation for the beautiful metal billet reserves of the country since 1937, gaining a reputation for its robust security.
“We are going to open the doors. We are going to inspect Fort Knox, ”Trump said in a speech to Republican governors on Thursday night.
“I don’t want to open it and the cabinets are naked,” he added.
In addition to safeguarding Gold, Fort Knox also functions as the Army Human Resources Command Center and organizes the largest annual training event in the Army every summer.
What is Camp Knox?
The army put up, located about 35 miles south of Louisville, covers 109,000 acres in three Kentucky counties: Bullitt, Hardin and Mead.
Established during World War I, Camp Knox was initially an artillery training center. It became a permanent installation in 1932 and since then is known as Fort Knox. In 1937, the first gold shipment reached Fort Knox, with the first cavalry regiment assigned to protect it.
When World War II broke out in Europe, the Army formed the armor force in Fort Knox, where thousands of soldiers were introduced for tank training. For almost 80 years, the Put Up was called the “cavalry and armor home.”
