After suffering its first loss late last year, Cignal returned to winning ways after adding to Galeries Tower’s woes, 25-17, 25-20, 25-19, in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at PhilSports. Area in Pasig City.
Vanie Gandler, who now has a larger role on offense with the departure of former team captain Ces Molina, led the way with 17 points on 13 kills, three aces and a block as the HD Spikers improved to a 5- 1.

“I’m very happy with the team’s performance because on the court you can really hear everyone leading in their own way like talaga teamwork and it’s very nice to listen to and it’s very fun to play,” Gandler said.
“Very grateful because we won in straight units and I am proud of the team because what we have been working on in training is beginning to show. But of course, we still have to keep working until we master what we want to accomplish and execute it every game,” Shaq delos Santos said as Cignal navigates the rest of the conference without Molina and veteran center Riri Meneses, who did. They will not renew their contracts with the squad.

The Highrisers continued to fight despite being buried in a 9-0 deficit in the second frame and managed to get within 21-19. But the HD Spikers maintained their composure despite the tough fight that Galeries Tower brought.

The losing team scored three points in a row down the stretch of the final set, 22-19, forcing De los Santos to call a timeout which helped Cignal finish the job when Ishie Lalongisip nailed a crosscourt shot followed by an error attack by Ysa Jiménez. that brought the HD Spikers to match point.

Roselyn Doria, Lalongisip and Jackie Acuña contributed nine points each while Gel Cayuna launched 15 excellent units. New captain Daybreak Macandili-Catindig protected the court with 19 excellent attacks.
“Super proud because everyone stepped up and we really enjoyed it. “It’s great to see the whole team connect so well,” said the defensive ace.
No Highriser reached double digits in the one hour and 31 minute matchup and Galeries Tower lost its sixth game in seven matches.
