Curtis Jones has risked angering Liverpool fans by suggesting that former Chelsea star Eden Hazard is a better footballer than his current teammate Mohamed Salah.
Salah is having one of the best seasons of all time, putting up incredible numbers as Liverpool lead in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
But Jones admitted that he grew up watching Hazard and enjoyed watching the Belgian more, although he also admitted that Salah is the player he would prefer to have in his own team.
“I know we compare him to Mo all the time and I’ve been involved with Mo. I play him, who I saw as a kid when I loved the game and wanted to be like a player. I feel like doing it. Period Hazard. Every game I saw… ‘wow, that’s football.’
“I wouldn’t say he’s been disrespected, but he wouldn’t have entered into certain conversations that he should have,” the native Liverpool player said of Hazard at the time, referring to his disappointing career that ended prematurely after a disastrous record transfer to Real Madrid. .
“It’s a conversation I’ve had with Mo and all the guys. As a footballer, is he better than Mo? In my opinion, yes. But who would you rather have on your team? They will call you Mo because he gets you your goals and assists.”
When Ferdinand clarified that he would prefer to see Hazard but put Salah in a team to win games, Jones agreed: “Yes, exactly, sure, it’s as easy as that.”
Even with that clarification, Jones was criticized by Liverpool fans on social media for speaking so highly of someone else in direct comparison to his own colleague. The 23-year-old continued posting on a stranger himself, underlining the claim that he would still prefer to play with Salah.
Alongside a photo of Salah, he wrote; “The one I would rather have on my team.”
