TikTok is now back online in the United States on Sunday a few hours after the president-elect donald trump announced that it would issue an executive order on Monday to restore the platform.
Not long ago, TikTok issued a statement explaining: “In accordance with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. “We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will not face sanctions if they provide TikTok to more than 170 million Americans and allow more than 7 million small businesses to thrive.”
They continued: “It is a firm stance in favor of the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. “We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”
ICYMI… Donald Trump went to Fact Social this morning with a strong message: writing “tick saves” in a post.
He then wrote that he planned to pass an executive order on Monday (the same day he will be sworn in as the country’s 47th president) to protect the app.
Trump mentioned the possibility of the United States taking a 50% ownership position in the app… thus diluting ByteDance’s control over the company.
As we told you… Trump told an NBC Information reporter on Saturday that he would “very likely” pause the ban for 90 days, as required by law. This executive order shows much stronger support for the app and will likely reassure many influencers.
It’s worth noting… this band was approved by Congress last year and has very specific conditions for extending the pause in the ban. It is unclear at this time whether an executive order is sufficient to extend the period.
In any case, it seems that Trump is on the side of influencers and content creators, as many believed he would be… and we will have to wait and see what happens with the popular social media app.
