Bournemouth extended their unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions with an impressive 4-1 win against in-form Newcastle United in the Premier League thanks to Justin Kluivert’s hat-trick.
Bournemouth made a breathless start on Tyneside and took the lead after just six minutes to surprise the home fans. Kluivert scored his ninth goal of the season in all competitions, deflecting an Antoine Semenyo pass with a precise shot to give the visitors a deserved lead.
Newcastle quickly regrouped and, spurred on by the raucous home support, found an equalizer in the 25th minute. Some slack defending by the visitors was punished when Bruno Guimaraes redirected his free header past the unconvincing Kepa Arrizabalaga.
But it was Guimaraes who was at fault as Bournemouth regained their lead just before half-time. The midfielder was robbed deep in Newcastle territory and Kluivert doubled his tally for the afternoon with a powerful shot after being supplied by the indefatigable Dango Ouattara.
Ouattara continued to cause problems for the Newcastle defense and the Burkina Faso international had the ball in the back of the net on the hour mark. However, his cushioned attempt was disallowed following VAR intervention after the ball went out of play early in the play.
Brooks saw a superb near post shot from Martin Dubravka as Bournemouth chased a third, but it mattered little as Kluivert sealed a deserved three points for the Cherries in added time with an impressive long-range effort.
However, there was still time for Bournemouth to grab the fourth goal, when Milos Kerkez was called into action in the 96th minute. The Hungarian made a thrilling run into the final third and produced an excellent last-gasp effort to equalize as the Cherries added even more gloss to the marker.
