Anti-corruption minister Tulip Siddiq could lose her job if the investigation into her properties finds she broke government rules, a cabinet member has suggested.

Science Secretary Peter Kyle was asked about Ms Siddiq on Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips.

He has referred to the Prime Minister’s independent adviser on the interests of ministers, Sir Laurie Magnus, after it emerged that he was living in properties in London linked to allies of his aunt, Sheikh Hasina, the deposed Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

There have also been questions about the trips he made to Russia with his aunt.

Siddiq insists he “has done nothing wrong.”

What are the allegations against Ms Siddiq?

The allegations center on financial ties between Tulip Siddiq and political allies of her aunt, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Siddiq is currently renting a £2 million house in north London, owned by a businessman with alleged links to Hasina’s Awami League party.

She also owns an apartment in central London, which Monetary Instances reports was given to her by an ally of her aunt.

And she was registered at another London property that was transferred to her sister in 2009 by a lawyer who represented Hasina’s government.

As economic secretary to the Treasury, Siddiq oversees anti-corruption efforts in the financial sector as part of her mandate.

Kyle told Sky Information: “With Tulip, she addressed this herself straight away.

“There is a process underway and we know very well that it will be a workable process, and that the prime minister and this government will respect its results, a complete contrast to what we have had in the past.”

He gave this answer after Trevor pointed out Labour He would have been calling for a sacking if the roles had been reversed and the Conservatives were in power.

‘Tulip Siddiq will lose her job if she breaks the rules’

Kyle contrasted her party’s stance with that of the Conservative Party, saying she called for an investigation into Priti Patel’s harassment allegations, and that she “had to be dragged into that investigation.”

He added that he let the investigation develop.

“The results came out, she was found guilty and no action was taken,” Kyle said.

His response came after Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch yesterday called for Siddiq to be sacked.

Shadow chancellor Mel Stride repeated the calls to Sky Information today.

He said: “What is not right is for the Prime Minister not to remove her from that position and get her to resign.”

“Because she is the anti-corruption minister, she has now had serious charges or serious accusations brought against her about corruption, and it is going to be really impossible for her to do that job in the current circumstances.

“So she should resign, and the prime minister has to take care of that.”

Sunday weather This week he interviewed the current leader of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, who called for an investigation into Ms Siddiq.

He said the properties should be returned to his government if they were acquired through “easy robbery.”
