All episodes of Creature commands They’re now streaming on Max, and fans can finally get their first taste James GunnThe DCU. Gunn has a history of working with the same actor multiple times on his projects, as evidenced by his Creature commands cast, several of whom appeared in his guardians of the galaxy trilogy. One of Gunn’s veterans is Maria Bakalovawho voices Princess Alana in the animated series, and previously voiced Cosmo in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. Bakalova also recently starred alongside Sebastian Stan in The apprentice and Amanda Stenberg in Bodies Bodies Bodies. During a recent episode of Collider Ladies Night scam Perry NemiroffBakalova was asked about the biggest challenges of playing a character in animation versus current action, and it’s even harder than you can imagine:
“OMG, congratulations to all the voice actors out there. It is a very difficult job to do. You basically just use your voice. We are privileged, to a certain extent, to be able to use physical appearance, to be able to walk differently, to talk differently, to look at people differently with a camera when we perform. a set. You use your eyes many times, you use your hands many times, you use your smile many times. With voice acting, You basically just use your voice, your emotions and how you feel in the moment.and what you’re trying to accomplish using literally just your voice. It’s a very difficult job to do, especially when James does such a good but challenging job of building characters that have so many layers that pretend they are one thing and are something more than that. You have to do it believably because the other characters have to believe that that is one thing, and then you reveal that it is something else. It’s a very challenging place to be. But he’s in charge, so you trust him and you know that, in the end, everything will work out.”
Bringing different emotions to life without being able to use body language or anything other than voice has to be an immense challenge, and it’s part of why outstanding voice performances in animation deserve as much respect as performances in action today. From an outside perspective, it may seem like voice acting would be easier because you only use your voice and not your entire body, but in reality, you rely on a part of your body to convey things like tone, intentions, feelings, and more. It’s exponentially more difficult. Voice acting in Creature commands are part of what made the program a success, especially since Indira Varma like the bride and Frank Grillo like Rick Flag Sr., and the show certainly wouldn’t have the same respect without his phenomenal work.
What’s next for the DCU?
Now that the first season of Creature commands has come and gone, the followers have Superman which we expect, which will be released on July 11 and will serve as the official live-action launch of James Gunn’s DC Universe. The first trailer of Superman debuted in late 2024 and was a hit with fans, even breaking records on its way to garnering over 250 million views on social platforms during its first 24 hours. There was some room for maneuver Creature commands if the show hadn’t been the huge success it was, but Gunn, Peter Safranand everyone in DC needs Superman be a great success both financially and critically and audience reception so that Gunn has the opportunity to see his vision in DC.
