A video circulating online since early Friday morning in Texas shows a police officer being thrown from a moving vehicle while trying to arrest a woman, resulting in serious injuries. As the officer lay unconscious on the ground, onlookers can be seen laughing and mocking him.
Footage from Beaumont shows a woman running across a parking lot and jumping into a convertible, with a police officer chasing her.
When the officer tried to stop her by jumping into the back seat of the car, the woman suddenly accelerated and threw the officer head-first into the pavement.
The officer, who suffered a serious head injury, was left unconscious on the ground. Surprisingly, a group of young bystanders responded with cheers and laughter as the officer lay injured.
“Hey, hey! Police! Step on my man!” someone screamed as the vehicle fled the scene, the New York Publish reported.
Police later arrested Jamaysha Butler, the alleged driver of the car, who now faces charges of Assault due to intoxication and evasion of arrestboth stemming from serious bodily injury caused to a peace officer, according to the Beaumont Police Department.
The injured officer, whose identity has not been released, was taken to the hospital with a brain hemorrhage but is currently in stable condition, according to KDFM.
Police also arrested Melissa Bell, 22, who allegedly assaulted an officer during her arrest. According to KDFM, Bell kicked and kneed the officer while he was being escorted to a patrol car.
Bell was arrested for public intoxication, resisting arrest, interference with public duties, assault on a peace officer and outstanding warrants. Both women had prior arrests.
The incident sparked inappropriate reactions on social media platforms.
One user commented: “The guy thought it was Paul Blart,” referencing Kevin James’ character in “Mall Cop.”
