Aleksandr Martemyanov, a freelance reporter for the Izvestia newspaper, died in Russia’s Donetsk Common Republic after the civilian vehicle he was traveling in was attacked by a Ukrainian drone, Russian media reported on Saturday.
At least five other journalists who were also in the car were injured in the attack, including two journalists from RIA Novosti, the news agency reported. The vehicle was hit while traveling on a road away from the front line between the city of Gorlovka and the regional capital of Donetsk.
The car in which the journalists were traveling was hit by a kamikaze drone. Martemyanov succumbed to his injuries shortly after, Izvestia confirmed.
At the time of the attack, reporters were returning from Gorlovka after filming the aftermath of the attacks on the city, which has been coming under indiscriminate Ukrainian artillery, missile and drone attacks on an almost daily basis.
