Jasprit Bumrah took off and threw the ball to Prasidh Krishna.

Prasidh’s first ball bounces sharply towards Steve Smith, who manages to defend it.

The second ball is hit at square leg for no run.

The next three balls are points, defended or left by Smith.

And the last ball is hit in the middle of the wicket so as not to run.

Beau Webster has a ball to deal with in this over. His first ball in Test cricket. Mohammed Siraj has got two in one over.

Siraj bowls straight and the ball hits Webster’s pad for no run.

The first ball he faces from Siraj is coming down the leg side for no run.

FOUR. Great shot from Head. The ball was straight and swinging in, and Head flicks it across mid-wicket towards the rope.

SHUTTER. Konstas is out

Mohammed Siraj gets Sam Konstas.

The first ball of the twelfth over was an outswing that beat the bat.

His second ball is a little straighter and this time he gets the outside edge.

Jaiswal makes a good catch in the gully.

Bumrah goes back a length, goes outside and Konstas leaves him.

Bumrah bowls and Konstas takes a great swing. The ball bounced sharply and hit Konstas on the shoulder.

Konstas charges and mistimes it but deflects mid-wicket for a single.

Smith takes on Bumrah and defends a straight ball.

FOUR GOODBYE. Bumrah tried to bowl at Smith’s hip with a leg slip. But Bumrah makes a mistake, passes the batsman and the bouncer and reaches the rope.

Tenth up – Siraj continues

Siraj bowls to Konstas who defends on the opposite side to avoid running.

Another ball out of bounds is left by Konstas.

A direct ball from Siraj is defended by Konstas on the front foot. And then again, when Siraj is actually aiming for the stump.

Konstas gets a single leg as Siraj bowls too straight.

Steve Smith will face the last ball of the over. Smith hits a shorter ball to cover and not run.

9th over: Bumrah bowls and Konstas swings hard

FOUR. Konstas takes a small step and then throws a crossbody shot to the rope. That ball was hit with disdain.

Bumrah bowls straight and Konstas can only hit the bowler back.

Konstas swings, trying to hit over mid-wicket. He takes a look at the ball and it goes to fine leg for a single.

Bumrah bowls wide of the stump towards Smith and the Australian is gone.

Another ball out. Smith thinks about hitting and then retreats.

The last ball is fired onto leg stump, clips Smith’s pads and Pant collects it for a dot ball.

eighth up – Siraj continues and hurts his pinky

Steve Smith confronts Siraj.

The first ball remains.

Run for Smith. Drive with your back foot until you reach a full ball. Strange shot, but passes the middle game for three runs.

Siraj is hurt. He tried to field that ball hit by Smith and it hit his left pinky finger. IS. There is blood at the end of Siraj’s finger. The coach is there to tie him down.

NEAR ACCIDENT. Steve Smith is almost left with nothing. Konstas hit a ball to short fine leg and Smith ran. Konstas did not want to participate and a direct hit would have dismissed Smith. Big missed opportunity for India.

CATTLE. Konstas goes for a drive and Siraj’s last out beats the bat.

Konstas charges, receives a wide ball outside off and pushes it to third man for a single.

Steve Smith leaves the ultimate ball of an over that has practically everything.

The seventh over continues: Steve Smith at the crease

Steve Smith is at the crease, opposite Bumrah.

Smith leaves the first ball and is then hit on the outside edge. Great Bumrah bowling.

Smith gets off the mark with a single, tucking a ball from his hip towards short fine leg.

Sam Konstas will face Bumrah’s last ball and defend it.

Konstas then practices a great shot. This is entertainment at its finest.

SHUTTER. Bumrah attacks as Labuschage gets cut

There’s the first wicket of the morning.

It’s that man Jasprit Bumrah again.

He bowls just outside off, gets a slight edge off Marnus Labuschagne’s bat and is caught by Rishabh Pant.

Initially, the umpire said it was not out, but India was confident and reviewed.

There is a clear peak in snicko as the ball passes the bat.

Labuschagne is out by 2.

7th up – Bumrah continues

Bumrah steps back a length and the ball bounces sharply. Labuschagne is able to get up top and defend it well.

6th up – Siraj continues

DEFEATED. Siraj bowls a great line, forces Konstas into a defensive shot and the swing goes over the edge of the bat.

Konstas tries to hit the leg side but misses and the ball slides harmlessly to the middle for no run.

Siraj bowls outside and Konstas puts his arms on his shoulders.

Siraj tries the inside swinger but goes down the leg side. Goalkeeper Rishabh Pant dives to stop the ball and then lands on the ball. The poor guy can’t catch a break in this match.

Run towards Konstas as he passes through the back point for two runs.

The last ball of the over is straight and hits it back to Siraj so that he doesn’t run.

5th up: Bumrah enters the bowl

There is a roar from the Indian fans in the crowd as Jasprit Bumrah, their captain, takes the ball.

Marnus Labuschagne faces his first ball and defends on the front foot.

Marnus comes off the mark with positive momentum through covers for two runs.

Bumrah bowls straight. Labuschagne defends and the ball slips into the ravine to avoid running.

Marnus leaves the next ball, which is shorter and further away from off stump.

There is another ball left outside the stump. That ball was behind and almost went over goalkeeper Rishabh Pant’s head. There is a lot of bounce on this wicket.

Bumrah attacks the stumps and Labuschagne defends to end the over.

fourth over: Mohammed Siraj will play the first over of the day

Mohammed Siraj has the ball in his hand to start the day.

Last night he threw one and made two runs.

Sam Konstas faces off.

The first ball leaves Konstas’s hip for two runs. Great start for Australia.

Siraj runs off off stump and Konstas leaves.

Konstas comes forward and defends a direct ball from Siraj. And another forward defense from Konstas.

Siraj bowls outside off, swings and Konstas goes.

The ultimate ball is defended again to end the over.

The players and referees walk towards the center.

Here we go.

With bats in hand, Sam Konstas and Marnus Labuschagne lead the SCG center to continue Australia’s innings.

Australia is 1-9, trailing India’s first innings by 176 runs.

India will look for early wickets to put pressure on the hosts.

Away from Test cricket, there’s BBL and a nasty outfield collision between Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams ruined last night’s match between Sydney Thunder and Perth Scorchers.

The Sydney Thunder confirmed that both players had suffered a concussion and were concerned about possible fractures. They were both conscious and talking.

We hope both men make a full recovery soon.
