Telugu film actor and comedian Ok. Brahmanandam said on Friday that the division between teachers based on the region they come from and the language they speak should be blurred as “we are all one and working for the common goal of spreading the light of education.”

Addressing a program organized by the Bharat Chaitanya Yuvajana Party to felicitate female teachers drawn from various educational institutions, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, the country’s first female teacher, Mr. Brahmanandam said diversity among teachers It was an excellent way “to show the immensity of the world we live in.”

Referring to the beauty of “Unity in Diversity” across India, he urged people to follow the ideologies followed by great leaders like Savitribai Phule and her closest Dokka Seethamma in Andhra Pradesh.

Former Telugu actress Renu Desai recalled Savitribai’s valuable contribution to the society and said that she was a pioneer in providing education to girls and the marginalized sections of the society. “She became India’s first teacher in 1848 and opened a school for girls with her husband, Jyotirao Phule,” she said, adding that her life was heralded as a beacon of women’s rights in India.

He said teachers had a vital role to play in a child’s life as they not only educated, advised, inspired, built confidence and shaped their well-being. Emphasizing that knowledge is important, he said that “ignorance is the biggest nightmare that can be avoided through the light of education.”
