The director of photography of “Maria”, Edward Lachman, won the film award in the 39th Annual ASC Awards, on February 23 in Beverly Hilton. His surprise gain of the favorites of the “Dunge: Half Two” Academy Award (Greig Fraser) and “The Brutalist” (Lol Crawley), as well as “Nosferatu” (Jarin Blaschke), “Concónimo” (Stéphane Fontaine), “ Full unknown “(Phedon Papamichael) and” Depraved “(Alice Brooks). The extended list was due to how close the voting percentage was.

This marks Lachman’s first victory after five nominations at the ASC awards. He was previously nominated for his work with Todd Haynes in “Mildred Pierce”, “Far from heaven” and “Carol”, as well as his previous effort with Pablo Larraín, “El Conde”. His second project with the Chilean filmmaker, “Maria”, follows the last days of the opera singer Maria Callas while reflecting on her life and the struggle to maintain her own voice. It serves as culmination of the trilogy of “important women” of Larraín, the other two “Jackie” and “Spencer” movies. To tell this story, which covers multiple decades and places, Lachman made use of the Kodak movie in 35 mm, 16 mm and tremendous 8, shooting both in Color and Blanco and White.

On the television side, the American Cinematographers Society awarded Robert Elswit in the limited collection category for “Ripley”, Richard Rutkowski in the half -hour episodic category for “Sugar” and Sam McMurdy in the episodic category of one hour for “Shōgun”, while “Gaucho Gacho” and “313” took the documentary and music video categories.
