The war in Ukraine is “the first line for all of us” in Europe, a minister said after Sir Keir Starmer said he is prepared to put British troops on the ground.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting said Wilfred Frost In Sky Information Breakfast, the government is firmly behind Ukraine, not only for Ukrainians, but because the “Imperialist expansionist agenda of Vladimir Putin” threatens the national security of the United Kingdom and Europe.
He said: “There is no higher priority for any government or any government worthy of the name than the security of the nation.
“The prime minister feels very firmly that the war in Ukraine is not only the first line for Ukrainians, it is the first line for all of us in our continent and in our continent.”
His comments occur when Sir Keir travels to Paris for an “emergency meeting” of European leaders on Monday after Donald Trump pressed Europe to provide more support to Kyiv and the United States to spend less.
The new Secretary of Defense of the United States also told Ukraine that Russia can maintain some of the lands that have taken by force, since Trump made a call with Putin about Ukraine, without kyiv in the call.
Trump and his team seemed to undermine American politics since Russia invaded Ukraine that the West would not negotiate unless Ukraine was involved.
Before the meeting of European leaders on Monday, Sir Keir said he was “ready and willing” Put British troops in a peace force in Ukraine.
When writing at the Each Day Telegraph, the prime minister also said that the United Kingdom was “ready to play a main role” in the defense and security of Ukraine, by committing £ 3 billion a year until 2030.
Last month he told the Sky Information Editor last month, Beth Rigby, during a surprise visit to Ukraine, The United Kingdom would play its “full part” in peacekeeping efforts in Ukraine.
Sir Keir will travel to Washington DC next week for his first meeting in person with Trump since he won the elections. Another meeting of European leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is expected to take place after that.
As the Trump administration essentially broken down the World War order based on the rules, its vice president, JD Vance, once again asked other NATO members to spend more in defense.
The United Kingdom currently spends 2.3percentdel GDP in defense, but points to 2.5%, however, Trump has demanded that each NATO member spend 5%.
Streeting said it would be a struggle to reach 2.5% due to the labor of the “serious finances” inherited from the conservative government, but said there was no greater priority than the United Kingdom and the security of Europe.
“We don’t treat our manifesto lightly,” he said.
“We made all those commitments in good faith, and we are determined to carry them out and deliver each of them of the same good faith.
“That is the work that we are all committed to doing. You know, we do not pretend that the elections we face are easy, but we do not ask them to come to the government for an easy trip. ”
Defense sources told Sky Information a 2.5% increase in GDP, which would amount to approximately an additional one of £ 5 billion annually, it is still well below what is required To rebuild and transform the armed forces, emphasizing that a clossing increase would be necessary to at least 3% of national income.
But the sources said that a rapid increase in investment to the government’s promised objective of 2.5% of GDP, from 2.3% today, should avoid new reductions in capacities.
