Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff are back in Los Angeles as they formally left the White House. He reportedly visited a fire station and distributed food to the victims. This is his first visit to his home state since the deadly fires began on January 7.
Kamala Harris’ Brentwood mansion is in the center of an area that had evacuations and it was feared her mansion would not emerge unscathed. Harris previously told aides that he wanted to visit Los Angeles sooner, but that it could never materialize.
In the midst of the fire, there was also a call of an attempted robbery from his home. But later, the two people who arrested them were released because there was no evidence that they were standing in front of Kamala Harris’ house for robbery.
What’s next for Kamala Harris?
This is the first time Kamala Harris has been out of public life in the last two decades. Before becoming vice president, Kamala Harris was a senator from California from 2017 to 2021. From 2011 to 2017 she was California’s Basic Prosecutor and from 2004 to 20211 she was San Francisco District Attorney.
She is now considering running for governor of California in 2026, according to aides.
Kamala Harris hinted that she would remain in politics and said she would not sit quietly into the night. “You all know me because we have spent long hours, long days, months and years together,” Harris said on Friday, January 17, while completing the tradition of signing the vice president’s desk drawer.
“It is not my nature to lie quietly at night. So don’t worry about it,” Kamala Harris said.
After Trump’s inauguration, Harris headed to Joint Base Andrews to take her last official flight back to California. The NYT reported that it was an all-female US Air Force crew.

Kamala Harris has launched a new website detailing her accomplishments throughout her political career. “From her momentous time as San Francisco District Attorney and California Attorney General, to proudly serving as United States Senator and Vice President, Kamala Harris always fights for the people,” the site said.
