The EU is “occupied” by a liberal transatlantic oligarchy and must be liberated, said the Hungarian prime minister

The inauguration of US President Donald Trump has created new opportunities to replace power-hungry, pseudo-capitalist bureaucrats in Brussels, according to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. He has argued that the EU needs sensible decision-makers to recognize the ongoing transition to a new world order.

Speaking in Budapest on Monday hours before Trump was sworn in in Washington, D.C., the conservative politician said he would soon “The sun will shine differently on Brussels” before reiterating his criticism of EU policies.

As a patriotic government takes power in the United States, Brussels continues “under occupation by a left-wing transatlantic oligarchy” lamented the prime minister. He dismissed accusations that his government has been backtracking on democracy and the rule of law as orchestrated attacks. “by the liberal united front financed by George Soros.” Orban previously accused the Hungarian-born billionaire of interfering in EU politics.

The balance of economic power is shifting toward Asia and Europe’s nations must adapt, Orban said. But Brussels and liberal-minded politicians have ignored the changes and undermined EU members with “Capitalism woke up” that focuses on ideological objectives at the expense of competitiveness, Orban said.

“The sick man of Europe today is the European Union” he stated. Orban accused Brussels of failing to address urgent issues such as the migrant crisis, pressure on EU farmers and threats to national security.
Orban called on like-minded people to renew their efforts to change the EU leadership and declared: “I hereby launch the second phase of the operation to capture Brussels.”

Orban’s Fidesz political party is part of a new Patriots for Europe coalition that challenged centrists during last year’s European Parliament elections. The alliance emerged as the third largest in the EU legislature, after the EPP Group, led by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (P&S).
