After months (if not years) of rumors, weeks of mysterious promotional packages, and one of the most electric debuts in years, Penta appeared on the second episode of Raw and netflixand I think the world-travelled wrestler could solve a major problem that has been plaguing WWE for years. Over the years, WWE has tried and failed several times to create the next great wrestler who would eventually take over management when Rey Mysterio, one of the The most impressive Hispanic fighters of all time.finally hangs up his boots.
But I don’t think that’s a problem moving forward. Unlike Sin Cara (both versions), Kalisto and other wrestlers who have been brought in over the years, I believe Penta’s story will play out very differently and I have some reasons to back up these claims. Is it his already established character and his catchphrase (his track record is incredible), his connection with the crowd, the fact that he is wrestling in a new era of WWEor something else? Let me break it all down…
Firstly, Penta already has an established brand and its great slogan ‘Zero Fear’
I saw Penta, who was then called Penta El Cero Miedo (one of his many names in the ring), fight in a southern Illinois American Legion Hall In May 2017, it was one of the hottest matches I have ever seen with my own eyes. Even before he got to the ring, Penta was receiving “Zero Fear” chants from the rowdy crowd, and I remember thinking, “I can’t wait to see this guy in WWE.” It was not a question of “if”, but of “when” for this charismatic and super talented fighter.
I say this because Penta, Pentagon Jr., Penta Darkish, or whatever they’ve called it over the years, has an established brand and image that is immediately recognizable and cool. This guy just oozes charisma and has a certain aura that makes followers pay attention. If we add to this the opportunity for basketball and soccer stadiums to be full of fans singing “Zero Fear,” and we will have a recipe for success.
He had an instant connection with the crowd before he even got in the ring, which is crazy
There was a lot to love about the second. Raw 2025, but the moment I keep coming back to was Penta’s debut. I’ve been waiting for this moment since the days of watching Pentagon Jr. tear it up. Clandestine struggle (where she fought against WWE Superstars such as Rey Mysterio, Iyo Sky and Chelsea Inexperienced). I must not have been the only one, as the crowd in San Jose, California, was devouring the debut. I mean, they were going crazy watching Penta work out some ring rust against Chad Gable.
Even before he got in the ring, Penta had the crowd eating out of his hand. And from there everything became wilder. The match, which had some rocky moments, and Penta’s post-match promotion allowed him to further build that connection with the crowd. If that connection continues and the crowd continues to lose control over him, we could be looking at not only one of the greatest WWE wrestling superstars of all time, but one of the industry’s all-time greats.
Many other wrestlers have felt that WWE was trying to find the next Rey Mysterio, but Penta has a unique look
Although Rey Mysterio was not the first wrestler to wrestle for WWE (the legendary wrestler and actor Mil Máscaras wrestled briefly for the then-WWF during his Hall of Fame career), is easily the biggest of the bunch for younger wrestling fans. For years, it felt like WWE was always searching for his successor, with many feeling that they were just some sort of variation on his character, look, and moveset.
It feels different with Penta. Sure, he’s a masked wrestler who can put on some wild performances in the ring, but the comparisons pretty much end there. He’s always had a unique look (one that changes quite frequently, if I’m honest) and a move set that goes beyond the high-flying aerial acrobatics and technicalities that would make Jim Cornette lose his ever-loving mind. The mask, the face paint, the ninja outfit, the bursts of intense physical activity, it all makes it feel like something new.
Triple H is in charge and it seems like he is fully committed to making Penta a megastar
Remember back in 2011 when Sin Cara debuted in WWE after being groomed for weeks, if not months? There were great promo packages, it had a nice look, a cool name, and some cool moves. But it all ended as soon as it started, for various reasons. The botched entrance that first night, the strange ambient lighting, and the random feud between two versions of the wrestler that arose after the first superstar to wear the Sin Cara mask was suspended and then brought back all contributed.
Fortunately, that didn’t happen during Penta’s period. Raw debut, and I think that’s because Triple H, who has been creative leader for a couple of yearsHe seems committed to making him not only a fashionable member of the squad, but also a megastar. The mysterious promotional packages, the strong debut against a talented wrestler like Chad Gable instead of a squash match, a post-match promo, it should all be a sign that the company is putting money and faith behind its new star. That has me very excited.
But wait until his brother, Rey Fénix, comes to WWE
Known as the Lucho Bros, Penta and Rey Fénix (brothers in current life, by the way) were one of the best tag teams in AEW and almost every promotion they have wrestled in together over the years. Once Rey finally makes it to WWE (I’m not sure when, but it’s happening), we’ll get to see even more of the company’s latest star.
They could continue their story of being talented and electric tag team wrestlers or they could revisit their feud that has played out in multiple promotions around the world over the years. Whenever they are in a story together (whether as allies or rivals), these two go all out and it will be a sight to see. I’m tired of imagining all the possible matchups like the Lucho Bros against the Usos, the new Bloodline, the New Day and several others.
I feel like this is the beginning of a new era for WWE with Penta in the mix, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. Although the future is uncertain, I know I will be attentive Raw with me netflix subscription every week and preparing for all those upcoming WWE events available with a current turkey subscription.
