Samsung will kick off its first Unpacked event for 2025 next Wednesday, January 22. Although there are still a few more days until its broadcast, we have a good idea of what will be revealed. Spoiler: Galaxy S25 series undoubtedly be the star of the show.

New Galaxy smartphones are usually shown during the first Unpacked of the year. Furthermore, Samsung revealed the issue in its formal invitation. The company stated that “the new Galaxy S series is all about (to reset) Artificial intelligence (AI) will likely be the second most important theme, as Samsung referred to “new AI developments as premium Galaxy innovations.”
But what about the rest of the show? Well, there’s a good chance more will be revealed at the event, even if it’s in the form of a short teaser image or video. Samsung has been working on all kinds of devices outside of its wheelhouse for the past few years and they could make a surprise appearance at Unpacked 2025. Below is a list of four potential candidates.
1. Galaxy S25 slim
The Galaxy S series typically consists of three devices: a base model, a Plus, and an Extremely. However, if you look at the trailer for the event, there is a fourth. I think this mysterious smartphone is the Galaxy S25 Slim.
Recently, notable insider OnLeaksin collaboration with SmartPrix, published several images of this potential mobile device. According to the leak, it will have a 6.7 to 6.8-inch screen, comparable to the S25 Extremely, but much thinner. The S25 Slim measures 6.4 mm thick (about a quarter of an inch), while the Extremely will be 8.2 mm (about 0.3 inches).

Note that those numbers don’t take into account camera bump. The lenses add weight to the S25 Slim, but don’t increase its size much, just 8.3mm. Possible features include a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, 12GB of RAM, and support for OneUI 7 on top of Android 15.
It’s unknown why Samsung has been working on a slim Galaxy phone, but it could be because of Apple. Rumors in recent months suggest the existence of a iPhone 17 air or iPhone 17 Slim (the name oscillates between the two). Samsung apparently wants to get ahead of the curve by launching a lightweight phone first.
2. Galaxy Ring 2
The Galaxy Ring 2 could appear at the event even though the first model was launched less than a year ago in July. Competition from rivals like Oura may be forcing the tech giant to act. So what can you expect to see?
Last December, DigiTimes claimed that the wearable would introduce several improvements, including up to seven days of battery life, “more accurate health data sensors,” and improved AI features. The report also mentions “two new sizes,” although there is some debate over their shape issue. dutch website Galaxy Club found a Korean patent for a Galaxy Ring prototype with a malleable design.

Instead of a rigid body, the inner ring is elastic, allowing the wearable to stretch or contract over the user’s finger. This one-size-fits-all design eliminates the need for different ring sizes.
Another Samsung patent from May 2024 showed that the tech giant was working on a “ring-type wearable device” with two outer screens that display different app icons. Tapping one of these icons will display “relevant information.” It is unknown what exactly this information is. Showing app notifications is a possible option. The May patent hints at possible sensors, such as those that measure heart rate and body temperature.
3. Project Moohan XR Headphones
Not one to lag behind industry trends, Samsung has been developing an augmented reality headset, codenamed Project Moohan. Very little is known about headphones. The dimensions, screen resolution and {hardware} remain a mystery, although Qualcomm is a named development partnermeaning the device could be powered by a Snapdragon chipset.
Google shared an image of a prototype last month. At first glance, it’s reminiscent of the Apple Imaginative and Prescient Professional, albeit “with a larger face cover to prevent slight bleeding and a Meta-style head strap for added comfort.”

In addition to Samsung’s photo, Google demonstrated Android XR, which will be Moohan’s operating system. ZDNET Senior Review Editor Kerry Wan noted that the operating system “focuses on spatial computing applications.” It uses overlays to display information “and visual cues in (a) current world environment.” Browser windows, for example, can be pinned in the air to help with multitasking or communication with Gemini.
Entertainment is also a big focus. Users can watch their favorite YouTube channel on a large digital screen and access Google Play Retailer applications.
4. Samsung’s Ray-Ban Meta competitor
Along with Moohan, Samsung has been working on a pair of smart glasses. Again, details are scarce, but a few nuggets of information floating around help paint a picture. Online forecaster jukanlosreve claims that the Samsung device will perform comparably to the Meta Ray-Bans (pictured above). They will not have a screen because “micro-LED technology is (apparently) still immature.” Instead, the glasses will look like a regular pair of sunglasses.

Korean outlet Yonhap Information provides additional information, stating that the facility will house an artificial intelligence assistant (likely Google Gemini), gesture recognition, and even the “ability to make payments.” Reports indicate that the Samsung device will weigh 50g, about the same weight as a pair of Meta Ray-Ban Wayfarer glasses.
Personally, I don’t think smart glasses or Moohan will appear in Unpacked 2025. It seems too soon. This type of technology takes a long time to cook in the oven. If anything, the company could show a preview, but a full reveal? This is likely to continue until the end of the year. But I’m all for surprises, Samsung.
