Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has revealed his long-standing ambitions to win the Ballon d’Or and insisted he is a “credible candidate” to claim the prestigious award in 2025.

The England international scored 44 goals in 45 games for his new employers, ensuring he shared the Gerd Muller Trophy with Kylian Mbappé at the 2024 Ballon d’Or awards event in Paris.

“This trophy validates my professional choice: leaving my country for the first time at the age of 30,” Kane said recently. The team in an exclusive interview. “And it allowed me to come for the first time to the Ballon d’Or ceremony at the Théâtre du Chatelet to attend the presentation of all these prestigious awards.

“I hope to come back to maybe win an even more prestigious one,” Kane added with a wink and a smile.

When asked if he ever thought about the possibility of winning the Ballon d’Or, Bayern’s number nine was blunt. “Of course I’m thinking about that!” declared. “And, why not say it, I believe in it. I feel that my performances make me a credible candidate.

“I continue to progress, I play in teams, be it Bayern or England, which are natural candidates for big victories. So, with my individual performances and a great collective victory like the Champions League, why couldn’t I believe in my chances? ?”

Bayern are well placed to win this year’s Bundesliga, ending Kane’s long wait for team titles. Although the Bavarians have not had as much success on the continent, they are expected to qualify for the round of 16 and remain one of the main contenders for the title.

“I have dreamed of the Ballon d’Or since I was little,” continued Kane, who is trying to emulate the feat of Michael Owen in 2001 as the last Englishman to win the award, “and even more so with Lionel Messi-Cristiano.” Ronaldo period that has given even greater shine to this generation.

“Who knows if in 2025 we will not meet again for another interview?” Kane concluded with a smile.
