Sony Honda Mobility presents the Afeela 1 EV with ADAS and a claimed range of 480 kilometers at CES 2025

Sony Honda Mobility’s Afeela 1 was unveiled at Client Electronics Present (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas on Monday. It is the first electric vehicle (EV) as part of the joint venture between two Japanese conglomerates – Sony Group Company and Honda Motor Firm, which was formulated in 2022. The Afeela 1 is claimed to offer a safe and hassle-free driving experience. , leveraging more than 40 sensors that power the suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). It also offers connected car features powered by Qualcomm Applied sciences’ Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions.

With its first electric vehicle unveiled at CES 2025, Sony Honda Mobility is aiming for a maximum range of 300 kilometers on a single charge, taking on heavyweights like Tesla and Rivian in the US electric vehicle market.

Sony Honda Mobility Afeela 1 Price

Sony Honda Mobility Afeela 1 price starts at $89,900 (approximately Rs. 77 lakh). It’s offered in two trims: Origin and Signature, with the latter adding several features such as 21-inch wheels, a rear entertainment system, and C-CMS (Central Camera Monitoring System). The Afeela 1 Signature is priced at $102,900 (approximately Rs 88 lakh). With purchases of Afeela 1, customers will receive a free 3-year subscription to select features and functions.

It is available in three exterior shade options: Tidal Gray, Calm White and Core Black, and black and gray interior color combinations. Sales of the Afeela 1 will officially begin in California in 2025 and deliveries in mid-2026. Customers can pre-book the electric vehicle by paying $200 (approximately Rs. 17,000).

According According to Sony Honda Mobility, the Afeela 1 EV features a 3D motion management system for greater comfort and handling on various road surfaces. It takes advantage of sign management technology through robotic development to integrate the control of the electric motor, brakes and suspension. It is equipped with the company’s patented noise cancellation and vibration reduction technology, which increases silence levels within the cabin, allowing passengers to focus on in-car entertainment.

The in-cabin entertainment experience is powered by an optimized sound system and per-seat screens. It has Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound technology which is claimed to offer a spatial sound experience. This is in line with the company’s ambitions to offer Afeela 1 as “Mobility as a creative entertainment space”. To control various functions of the car, there is an interactive agent called Afeela Private Agent that works through natural voice interactions. Sony Honda Mobility says the Afeela 1 can be updated and expanded via over-the-air (OTA) updates.

The electric vehicle has an electronic management unit (ECU) with a computing power of up to 800 TOPS and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. It also has a Snapdragon digital chassis and is integrated with generative AI, courtesy of Sony Honda Mobility’s partnership with Qualcomm. The ADAS suite leverages 40 sensors including cameras, LiDAR, radar, and ultrasonic sensors. Afeela 1 displays use Unreal Engine 3 to display ADAS views and maps, providing an end-to-end view of departure points, parking destinations, and routes. The company promises a maximum range of 480 kilometers on a single charge.

Sony Honda Mobility says that 70 percent of the Afeela 1 is made from recycled and plant-based materials. In addition, recycled materials are also used in the construction of the steel sheet of the body and chassis.
