If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to get back on the dating scene, today is the day to finally make the effort.
January 5 is “Dating Sunday,” the first Sunday in January, recognized annually as the busiest day for dating apps.
On this day, apps like Hinge, Tinder, and Bumble are seeing substantial increases in activity, with users searching and starting conversations more actively.
“As we move into the first days of the new year, many people find themselves reflecting on the past year and envisioning the year to come,” said Moe Ari Brown, Love and Connection expert at Hinge.
‘The new year marks a change from one chapter to the next and offers us the opportunity to reset.
“For people seeking connection, the energy of the New Year also brings hope, promise of renewal, and a new beginning in their love lives.”
While the concept of spending the day looking for love may seem daunting, luckily Hinge has also revealed the peak times to connect.
If you’re here in the UK, make sure you swipe at 9pm, which is the time with the most likes and messages sent.

‘Peak dating time’ on Hinge varies slightly depending on where you are in the world.
Last year in the UK, the most likes and messages were sent at 9pm, while the most voice notes were sent at 10pm.
In the US, Canada, Germany, and Sweden, the peak time for likes, messages, and voice notes was 9 p.m.
In Australia, the most messages were sent at 8 p.m. and the most voice notes were sent at 9 p.m., while the most likes were sent at 10 p.m.
Meanwhile, Hinge users in France and Spain sent the most likes, messages and voice notes at 10 p.m.
However, in Italy, the most likes and messages were sent at 11:00 p.m., while the most voice notes were sent at 7:00 p.m.
If you plan to use Relationship Sunday, Logan Ury, Hinge’s director of relationship science, has given you six top tips to set yourself up for success:
1. Update your profile
Today, apps like Hinge, Tinder, and Bumble are seeing substantial increases in activity, with users more actively searching and starting conversations.
Ms. Ury recommends updating your photos and directions.
“Hinge’s personalized profiles feature prompts that help you showcase your authentic self and make it easy for potential dates to get to know you in a meaningful way right from the start,” she explained.
2. Look for reasons to say ‘yes’
While many singles fall into the trap of looking for flaws in other users’ profiles, Ms. Ury says they should instead look for reasons to say “yes.”
“It’s tempting to approach dating as an exercise in figuring out what’s wrong with people or finding a reason to say no,” she said.
“Look for the potential in someone and discover where the connection could lead you.”
3. Comment on the profiles that interest you.
Instead of just opting for a timid like, try leaving a comment on profiles that interest you.
‘Comments generate more matches than likes or just leaving an emoji!’ said Mrs. Ury.
“People appreciate it when you invest effort in getting to know them.”
4. Start the conversation right away
Once you match with someone, don’t wait – send a message as soon as possible.
“The best chance of getting a response is within 24 hours of connecting with someone on Hinge,” Ms. Ury said.
‘Ask them questions and start discovering who they are beyond their profile.’
5. Send a voice note
Last year, conversations with voice notes were 40 percent more likely to lead to a date, according to Hinge.
“Voice notes are a great way to connect with a match and show another side of yourself beyond your profile,” Ms. Ury said.
6. Make the most of your appointment time
Lastly, Ms. Ury suggests making the most of “date time” and sending a message when others are most active.
“This is when your messages are most likely to be noticed and responded to,” he added.
