Bangladesh cancels training of judicial officers in India

DHAKA: A day after Bangladesh’s Ministry of Justice issued a notification on Supreme Court Directives For the training of 50 judicial officers in India, the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus on Sunday canceled the program, adding to already strained ties between the two neighbors since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in August last year.
The Indian government would bear all the expenses of training judges at the National Judicial Academy and the State Judicial Academy in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, from February 10 to 20, according to the now-canceled notification.
The Supreme Court on Sunday again issued directives on training of judges in India and this has led to cancellation of the earlier approval for them to attend the training program in Bhopal, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs said in its latest notification. on Sunday.
Assistant Judges, Senior Assistant Judges, Joint District and Session Judges, Additional District and Session Judges, District and Session Judges and officials of equivalent rank have been nominated for the training programme.
India and Bangladesh have witnessed strained relations, with New Delhi expressing concern over a series of attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.
