Bournemouth 1-0 Everton: Player ratings as Brooks breaks Pickford’s heart

A wonderful David Brooks volley finally secured Bournemouth’s 1-0 victory against Everton on Saturday afternoon.

Everton emerged from the first 45 minutes of their trip to the Vitality Stadium with a clean sheet almost entirely intact thanks to the excellent form of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The overworked England international denied the hosts on four separate occasions, making a particularly impressive save to deny Justin Kluivert when he was one-on-one with the Dutch striker.

Sean Dyche reacted to a desperately one-sided half by making two changes during the break, including just a third Premier League appearance for 17-year-old midfielder Harrison Armstrong.

Ultimately, Pickford’s spirited determination could only last so long. Brooks was part of a triple substitution made by Andoni Iraola as the game threatened to lead to another goalless draw involving Everton. Within ten minutes of his arrival, the Welsh striker had broken the deadlock, masterfully controlling a volley into the far corner that not even Pickford could deflect.

The defeat leaves a nervous Everton looking over their shoulders towards a relegation zone that is just two points away. Bournemouth, on the other hand, has European qualification in its sights after maintaining its seventh position.
