Tomiko was born on May 23, 1908, and claimed her long life was due to a love of bananas and a Japanese yogurt drink known as Calpis.

She was even an avid climber who even managed to climb a mountain when she reached 100, without using a cane.

His family believes these difficult hikes have helped his body stay healthy and given him an incredibly long life.

She became the oldest living person in August and held the illustrious title for a few enjoyable months.

When she was told she was the oldest person on Earth, she simply responded, “Thank you.”

His family and friends held a moving funeral for the historic OAP in recent days in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture.

Tomiko married at only 20 years old and raised two daughters and two sons.

In her youth, according to officials, she was often described as having a “joyful spirit.”

This was helped by her years as a volleyball player during high school.

During World War II, when Tomiko was in her early 30s, she managed the Japanese office of her husband’s textile factory while caring for her four children at home.

When this 116-year-old woman’s husband tragically died in 1979, Tomiko lived alone in her husband’s hometown, Nara Prefecture, for ten years.

Her resilience has also seen her survive a flu attack in 2023.

This year, as she celebrated her 116th birthday, the mayor gave her flowers, a cake and a card.

Tomiko outlived two of her own children and left behind a son, a daughter and five grandchildren.

The oldest person in the world is now the Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas, 116 years old, according to the Gerontology Research Group.

He was born just 16 days after Tomiko.
