A BRITISH national has been identified as one of 14 victims killed in the horrific New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans.
The coroner’s officer has not identified the person pending “international arrangements”, presumably with the UK government.
The partial identity was released by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office, as well as the names of 12 of the other victims. NOLA.com reports.
All of the victims died from blunt force injuries, the office said.
An FCDO spokesperson told The Solar: “We are supporting the family of a British national who died in New Orleans and are in contact with local authorities.”
Shamsud Din Jabbar, 42, is suspected of carrying out the terrorist attack when he drove his white Ford pickup truck into a crowd celebrating the new year on famed Bourbon Street.
The attack turned the street into a bloodbath after revelers were gunned down, leaving dozens more injured.
Bombs were found in the Ford F150 Lightning and two were also found planted in the area.
Hours before the attack, the FBI said Jabbar posted five videos on social media proclaiming his support for ISIS while traveling from Houston to New Orleans on the night of December 31.
In the first video, Jabbar, 42, explained how he initially planned to harm his friends and family, but changed his attack because he was worried that news headlines would not focus “on believers and unbelievers.”
Jabbar said in one of the videos that he had joined the terrorist organization “before the summer.”
The FBI is now confident there are no accomplices and Jabbar is believed to have attacked alone.
Terrorist fears over Carter’s funeral as state farewell ‘perfect time for attack’ after New Orleans rampage and Las Vegas bomb
Agents raided the suspect’s bomb factory in his scruffy Texas trailer after the attack.
Police found a Quran open to a passage about “killing” in the name of Allah.
FBI agents raided the dilapidated house of the Crazy inspired by the Islamic State and found a bomb-making workbench in a bedroom filled with chemicals that can be used in explosives.
Other bomb-making paraphernalia seen in Houston’s trailer includes tools, a protective eye visor and scales.
There are now fears that other high-profile public events, such as former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral, could be the “perfect target for terrorists.”
International security specialist Will Geddes told The Solar that US officials “cannot afford” to allow another attack on the event, which will attract the world’s attention.
A US Army spokesperson confirmed to ABC that Jabbar served in human resources and information technology roles from 2007 to 2015 in the military, but did not participate in direct combat.
A man named Abdur Jabbar in Beaumont, Texas, told the New York Times that he was the suspect’s brother.
He described Jabbar as “a true sweetheart, a good guy, a friend, very smart and loving.”
He said Jabber had converted to Islam at a young age, but that “what he did does not represent Islam.
“It is more about some type of radicalization, not religion.”
The New York Times reported that Jabbar has been arrested twice: once in Katy, Texas, for robbery in 2002, and again in 2005 for driving with an invalid license.
In both cases, the court fined him $100.
The New York Publish reported that Jabba lived in a run-down trailer park outside Houston, where he kept sheep and goats in the yard.
A neighbor, Francois Venegas, described Jabbar as a “simple person” who kept to himself but occasionally exchanged words on the street.
Venegas said: “(He was) pretty calm…Just walking, (he would say) ‘hello’, ‘hello’ and that was it.”
