ESPN was criticized for not showing the Sugar Bowl national anthem after the terrorist attack in New Orleans

Web is attacking ESPN after the network didn’t show the national anthem or moment of silence on the main Sugar Bowl broadcast… after a terrorist attack in New Orleans delayed the important football game.

People online are outraged by ESPN’s decision to show studio analysts breaking down the School Soccer Playoff quarterfinal matchup between Notre Dame and Georgia instead of the stadium tribute to the victims of Wednesday’s terrorist attack in the city.

Thursday’s Sugar Bowl was played at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans… close to where the terrorist was. Shamsud-Din Jabbar ran over New Year’s revelers in a van.

ESPN is now getting a lot of attention on social media… with one X user posting: “Not showing the national anthem after a damn terrorist attack just miles away is classic @espn for you…”

Others call ESPN to wake up and say they were surprised to see the anthem or the moment of silence given the circumstances here… and some people even go so far as to label ESPN “disgusting.”

While ESPN did not show moments from the main broadcast, people who tuned in to watch the alternate broadcast on SEC Community were shown the anthem and moment of silence.

ESPN showed footage of the American flag on the field and fans bowing their heads in silence as analysts gave their pregame comments.

A source with knowledge tells TMZ… SportsCenter concluded an interview with Tim Tebow — and cuts to commercial before the moment of silence. SportsCenter resumed in the middle of the anthem, making it awkward to stop at that point.

ESPN declined to comment on the rejection.
