UConn’s Liam McNeeley (30) celebrates a basket during the game between the Butler Bulldogs and the UConn Husks at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024 in Indianapolis.
UConn freshman standout Liam McNeeley will undergo an MRI exam Thursday after injuring his right ankle during the 81-68 road win against DePaul on Wednesday.
Huskies coach Dan Hurley said McNeeley would not be available for Sunday’s game against visiting Windfall.
In fact, Hurley fears it will be a while before McNeeley returns to the court.
“We’ll see what that looks like,” Hurley said after the win in Chicago. “Hopefully, it’s just a sprain. “We don’t know much.”
McNeeley was injured in the second half in a collision with DePaul’s Layden Blocker. He needed help to get up from the ground.
McNeeley had nine points and six rebounds in 25 minutes before leaving for No. 11 UConn (11-3, 3-0 Huge East).
McNeeley, a top Texas State recruit, ranks second on the team in scoring (13.6) and rebounding (5.8) for the two-time defending national champions.
