A man was shot to death in a hospital parking lot after allegedly pointing a gun at police.
Police arrived at Manning Hospital in Taree, on the New South Wales north coast, shortly before 1pm on Thursday after reports a man had fired shots into the air at a house several kilometers away. .
Police found the man, believed to be in his 30s, in the hospital car park.
During negotiations, the man allegedly pointed a gun at officers, who then shot him.
They gave him first aid and took him to hospital, but he died a short time later.
It was declared a critical incident and the incident would be reviewed independently.
The New South Wales homicide squad would also investigate.
