Patrick Mahomes has been excluded from Professional Bowl selections for the first time since becoming a starting quarterback in the NFL, while Lamar Jackson is one of nine Baltimore Ravens players included, the most in the league.
The Kansas Metropolis Chiefs star, a three-time Tremendous Bowl MVP, missed out on a spot on the AFC roster after being named every year since becoming a starter at Arrowhead in his second season.
Tight end Travis Kelce, however, earned his 10th selection to the Professional Bowl as one of five Chiefs players to make the cut along with defensive lineman Chris Jones and interior offensive linemen Joe Thuney, Trey Smith and Creed Humphrey.
Mahomes, statistically, has endured one of the worst seasons of his brilliant career, throwing for 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. However, the Chiefs remain in search of a historic third consecutive Tremendous Bowl crown after clinching the No. 1 seed in the AFC entering the final weekend of the regular season 15-1.
Two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson leads the picks in Baltimore as one of the favorites to win a third MVP after throwing for 3,955 yards and 39 touchdowns with just four interceptions along with 852 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
He is joined by Ravens teammate Derrick Henry thanks to his 1,783 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in his first season with the team.
Jackson appears alongside MVP rival Josh Allen of the Buffalo Payments and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals as the AFC’s starting quarterbacks.
Meanwhile, Washington Commanders play-caller Jayden Daniels is the fourth rookie quarterback since 1970 to be selected to the initial Professional Bowl roster, joining Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions and the comeback star of the Minnesota Vikings Sam Darnold as the NFC’s starting quarterbacks.
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers, who just broke the rookie receptions record, and Los Angeles Rams running back Jared Verse are the other two first-year players included.
Detroit has seven picks ahead of six each from the Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles, including 2,000-yard rusher Saquon Barkley. The Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints are the only teams that have not had a player awarded a berth in the Professional Bowl.
Peyton Manning and Eli Manning will be the respective head coaches for the seven-on-seven flag football game between the two conferences in Florida on February 2.
