When it comes to the Kardashian-Jenner clan, I have a few favorites. For makeup, Kylie is my vibe, but for hair, I’m all Kourtney or Kim. Khloé is my go-to girl personality-wise, and when it comes to outfits, I’d say I’m more in line with Kendall. If I had to choose one of them to give me skincare advice, I would probably choose Kim; She seems to be the most honest about the skin care procedures and treatments she’s had, like Morpheus. However, I recently stumbled upon a video of Kendall sharing her entire beauty routine and there were quite a few things I wanted to try. The most interesting? Your gua sha routine.
In a video for VogueJenner recently showed off a one-minute gua sha routine that was, well. . . interesting, to say the least. “Don’t judge me,” he says in the video. “I don’t have much skill when it comes to this, but… here I go.” Regardless of whether or not she has “skill” when it comes to gua sha, she has a pretty ravishing face in my opinion, so I was glued to the screen as she went through her process.
When I saw tons of influencers and beauty lovers trying it out for themselves in the days that followed, I knew I wanted to try it too. To prep her skin, Jenner slathered her face with SheaMoisture Day by day Hydration Facial Oil ($8). She says she uses it right in the morning after waking up, but then washes it off. “I love it because it’s thick and the gua sha just glides on. The reason I do it before washing my face is because I use a lot of heavy oils. To make sure all the oils are removed from my face, cleanse after.”
For a week, I started my morning with Jenner’s gua sha regimen. I kept my gua sha in the refrigerator overnight and loved how it helped wake up my eyes and reduce puffiness. I also loved how my skin felt extra hydrated when I used the facial oil and spray combination, even though I washed them off before doing my full skincare routine. I didn’t notice a long-term difference in the look of my face when using gua sha, but I did see temporary benefits. My face generally looked less puffy and my skin also looked brighter.
Even though my little experiment is over, I will continue using gua sha in the morning. It’s a great way to start the day and I really love how relaxing it is. If you’ve been looking for a fun and easy way to start your day and reduce bloating, I highly recommend giving it a try. It only takes a minute and, in my opinion, the self-care is worth it.
